William "Bill" Mangone Obituary

William “Bill” Mangone, 73, of Cambridge, passed away with family by his side on Saturday, October 4, 2025.

Born in Cambridge, March 7, 1952 to Manuel and Virginia Mangone, Bill was the eldest boy and brother of six children. A loving man and caretaker from a young age, Bill was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Bill was known for being a man of faith and good nature and touched countless hearts in his lifetime.

Bill met the love of his life, MaryAnne, at a young age, and together, they lived in Cambridge and created wonderful memories with their children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Bill was most joyous when with MaryAnne, and remained happily married for almost forty years, until her passing in 2023. Throughout life’s hardships, Bill was known for always remaining at his wife and family’s side with an abundance of love, humor, hope, and faith.

Bill graduated from Arlington Catholic Highschool in 1970 and went on to take classes at Northeastern University in computer systems. He had a long career in data systems and technology and retired from the City of Cambridge as a Senior Database Administrator in 2012.

Bill also had a passion for helping others. Throughout his life, he worked part-time as a driver for taxis, Uber, Lyft, and Lasell Village, and was known for happily offering a ride to family and friends to get them to church, concerts, sporting events, the airport- wherever they needed to be.

Bill was known for his generosity, loyalty, and compassion. He will be remembered for his strong faith, as well as an unmatched love of golfing, Bible studies, his cats, chocolate, fried clams, and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Willa, who he lived with and helped raise in his final years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Virginia Mangone, his brother, Anthony Mangone, and beloved wife, MaryAnne Mangone. He is survived by his three children: Joe Mangone and his wife Lisa of Medford, Andrea Mangone and her wife Toshaun of Wilmington, and Audrey Mangone and her spouse James Brown of Cambridge. He has six grandchildren: Joseph, Jack, Ella, Ciera, RJ, and Willa. He is the beloved brother of Marilyn Mangone Langley, Barbara Mangone Royds, Richard Mangone, Michael Mangone, and brother-in-law to Jim Langley, Jim Royds, Margaret and Mark Calce, Kathleen Long, and James and Tina Thoele. He is an uncle, cousin, and friend to countless others.

Throughout his life, Bill faced several health challenges, including an admirable battle to nine cancers, as well as numerous cardiovascular issues. Although Bill lived many years with ten stents in his heart, it always remained large enough to show love to those around him.

A family friend described him best: “Bill was an incredible man whose love for his wife and kids shined so brightly.”
