Wilfred "Bill" Taylor Obituary

Wilfred J. Taylor, Bill or Will, age 96, of Belmont, died in his home on Sunday February 18th, 2024. Loving husband of the late Claire (Poirier) Taylor. Dear father of Donna Wall (Waltham), Arlene Taylor (Belmont), Robert Taylor (Belmont), Claire Chambers (Nashua, NH). Father-in-law of the very tolerant and patient Tom Wall and Dave Chambers, and  "favorite daughter-in-law" Cindy Taylor. Adored brother of the late Edith Jones, and Grace Tyler of Scarborough Maine. Best friend, brother-in-law of Bob Jones and Herb Tyler. Respected Pepere to Renee, Andrew, Nicole, Cory, Keith, Lucas, Kevin, Richard, and Brian. Grandpere of 19 great-grandchildren. Bill was the Owner of Wilfred J.Taylor Company and also a Proud member of the Belmont Lions Club. Bill was born in Saugus, grew up in Cambridge and graduated from Rindge Technical High School in Cambridge. He skipped his high school graduation in 1945 and signed up to serve in the Army.  He served in the Philippine Islands as WWII was ending. In Cambridge, he met his sweetheart, Claire, and they were married in 1948. A friend to many in Belmont, and elsewhere, Bill spent his free time helping his family, neighbors and friends with anything that needed fixing.   He had an engineer's mind and a huge workshop, filled with more tools than anyone could imagine. Bill enjoyed tinkering with both the very small (grandkids' broken toys) and the very large (restoring a 1908 Model T). As the sign in his shop read, "He who dies with the most tools wins!” In the past 4 years, Bill was surrounded by love of family and friends. This gave him so much joy. His children are forever grateful for the help, love and support of Bill's caregiver friends who allowed our family to keep Bill at home until he passed.  Our love to Leslie, Fran, Kwanga, Tsedale, Manna, Kidanu, Caroline, Valerie and Heather, and Peggy. If you ever borrowed a tool, or were on the receiving end of Bill's ingenuity, kindness , or advice, please pass it forward!
