Virginia M. (Egan) McCarthy (94) formerly of Belmont, passed away on November 8 after a long illness. The daughter of Irene and George Egan, she grew up in Belmont along with her brothers Ed and Ken. After graduating from Belmont High School and Lesley College, Ginny was a kindergarten teacher at the Mary Lee Burbank School. Ginny and her late husband, George McCarthy, raised their family in her hometown of Belmont. She was very active in the Belmont Garden Club and Belmont Historical Society for many years.
Ginny was the wife of the late George W. McCarthy for 58 years. She leaves behind her daughter Michele O’Brien and her husband Steve of Mashpee; her son Dave McCarthy and wife Debbie of
Andover; five grandchildren, Sean O’Brien, Meghan O’Brien, Tim O’Brien, Dan McCarthy, and Pat McCarthy; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 18 at 11am at St. Joseph’s Church, 130 Common Street, Belmont. Internment in Highland Meadow Cemetery, Belmont.
