Virginia C. Blanchette (Sliney) of Waltham, formerly of Belmont, passed away on February 25, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of 51 years of Bernard J. Blanchette. Loving mother of Elizabeth Coady and her husband James, of South Yarmouth; Karen Bonanno and her husband Robert of Burlington; and John Blanchette and his wife Jessica of North Reading. Cherished grandmother of Ashley and James Coady; Joseph, Matthew, and Robert Jr. Bonanno; and Liam and Julia Blanchette. Daughter of the late John and Julia Sliney of Belmont. Devoted sister of Mary Finegan and her husband Kenneth of Naples, Fla.; Julianne Mehegan and her husband Peter of Scituate and Naples, Fla.; and Ann Callanan-Morrissey and her late husband Michael of Duxbury. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
A graduate of Mount Trinity Academy and the Katharine Gibbs School, Ginny was a longtime and valued employee of the Belmont Housing Authority. She was a devoted mother to her three children and their spouses and proud "Nana" to her seven grandchildren, always keeping up with their many activities and accomplishments. She was an accomplished cook and faithful keeper of the family recipes and traditions, for many years hosting warm holiday gatherings at her home in Belmont. In their retirement, Ginny and Bernie enjoyed spending winters at their home in Naples, Fla., where over the years they made many new friends. Ginny was a woman of strong Catholic faith and confronted her illness with strength, courage and grace. Always the first to offer assistance to any friend or family member in need, her kindness and selflessness are an example to all who knew her.
Funeral from the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home 36 Trapelo Road Belmont on Saturday Feb 29 at 9:00 AM. Followed by a funeral Mass in St Patrick Church 212 Main Street Watertown at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. Interment St Patrick Cemetery, Watertown.
