Terrence Austin Boyle Sr. of Belmont, died suddenly, Monday, August 19, 2024 after years long battle with coronary artery disease. He was the son of Edward J. and Florence (Devine) Boyle. The beloved husband of 57 years to Dorothy M. (Burrone) Boyle.
A loving father to Terrence A. Boyle, Jr, and his partner Tracey of Billerica, Stephanie R. Walsh and her husband Andrew of Billerica and Geoffrey W Boyle and his wife Anne of Waltham. Terry was a cherished Grandpa to Victoria, Gavin, and Dylan Boyle.
He is a special uncle to Brian, Kristyn and Saoirse Riley. Terry was predeceased by his brothers, Edward Jr. and Kevin and his Sister Mary Riley.
Mr. Boyle was born in Cambridge and raised in Belmont. He was always proud to be a member of the 1 st graduating class of the then new St. Joseph’s Catholic School and having his picture in the year book. He then went on the St. John’s Prep in Danvers.
Terry was a co-owner of a chain of liquor stores, a family owned business, started in the late 50’s in North Cambridge as T.J. Hartnett Beverage Co. Over time the business grew to “Buy-Rite Liquors” including stores in Medford, Dorchester, Danvers and 2 in Cambridge. In 1986, Terry founded “Boyle and Sons” Lawn Sprinkler Company. He was one of the first innovated residential irrigation and landscape lighting business in the area, serving Belmont and surrounding communities. He retired in 2022 and his son Terry Jr. carries on the business. Although his health slowed him down, it never kept him down. Terry enjoyed vacationing, exploring sports and adventures, always wanting to try something new. He had a passion for trains, especially freight trains, stopping at each and every railroad crossing, looking down the tracks, and listening for the clickety clack of the tracks and that ear shattering horn blast.
He always loved a great party! Whether opening his home to holiday gatherings or getting together with buddies in Fryeburg for golf weekends or entertaining friends at his vacation home in Eastman. There was always plenty of fun, laughs, and food and he made the hor d’oeuvres!
An avid golfer, Mr. Boyle was a member of Oakley Country Club in Watertown for over 40 years participating in many tournaments, committees and social events.
Terry had a deep compassion for others and he was committed to helping all. He enjoyed volunteering at the Pine Street Inn and delivering Meals on Wheels to local residents. Recently, he has been working the polls at town elections. He loved greeting everyone as they came in and sharing a quick joke! Of course, he always brought in Eclairs or Cannollis to share with all….his favorites.
Terry was a member of St. Joseph’s Holy Name Society, The Knights of Columbus, and Past President of the Belmont Town Club 1992-1994. He proudly served as Master of Ceremonies for the Belmont Town Day parade and Celebration in 1984.
