Stephanie C. (Downey/Fetter) Deveau

DEVEAU, Stephanie C., age 85, of Cambridge, passed away on the morning of Saturday, December 28, following a long illness. Stephanie, a longtime resident of the Huron Village neighborhood of Cambridge, was the daughter of Dr. Francis T. and Gertrude Downey of Huron Avenue. Stephanie was predeceased by her husband Leonard Deveau and her siblings Charlotte O’Connell, Francis and Richard Downey. She was the beloved mother of Ron Fetter of Belmont, Kate Appleby and her husband Harry of Wilmington, Edward Fetter and his wife Christine of Weymouth, and Amy Deveau and her husband Michael Ratty of Boston. One of eight children, Stephanie eventually became the matriarch of a large and loving family that was her pride and joy. Stephanie was “Nani” to eight dear grandchildren, Amanda, Devon, Cameron, Sky, Cassie, Abigail, Millicent, and Sadie, one great grandchild, Charlotte, and dozens of West Cambridge kids who attended her home daycare over the years. She is best remembered for her kind and caring nature, the graceful way she moved through this world, and her remarkable strength and inner beauty. The love and warmth she shared so freely was boundless. Stephanie, our very own guardian angel here on Earth, has now taken her rightful place. While she is no longer with us, her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched. Stephanie is also survived by her brothers William, Paul, David, and Philip Downey, their spouses/partners; her sister-in-law Estelle Wilson; her late husband Leonard’s children from a previous marriage, their spouses, children, and grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held in the the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home, 36 Trapelo Rd., Belmont, on Monday, January 6th, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:30 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.

Sometime in the Spring, when the sun is shining and flowers are back in bloom, we will celebrate the life and legacy of Stephanie, the center of our universe.
