Robert V. Travers Sr.

TRAVERS, Robert V., Sr. Of East Cambridge, and South Dennis, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025. Late husband of Mary Travers. Father of Robert V. Travers, Jr; brother-in-law of Johnny O'Connor and his wife, Mary of Cromane, Killorglin, Co. Kerry, Ireland, Brother of the late Joseph and Helen Travers and Barbara and William Gillespie. Survived by loving and caring nieces and nephews, especially Maureen Monagle. The family wished to thank Irish Angels and the staff and the Carmelite Sisters of St. Patrick Manor for their care of Bob. Bob worked for Harvard University as a custodian, security and parking officer for 36 years. He was one of the founding members and president of the Harvard University Security Guard Union (Local 254). Late member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul as well as many numerous East Cambridge community and civic organizations. The recipient of the Cheverus Medal of the Archdiocese of
Boston. 

Visiting Hours will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 48 Sixth Street, Cambridge. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM celebrated by His Eminence, Seán Cardinal O’Malley, OFM Cap. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will be private. Bob’s Funeral Mass will be live streamed at https://www.harborview.live. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to Sacred Heart Memorial Fund, 39 Sixth Street, Cambridge, MA 02141; Society of St. Vincent de Paul Boston, 18 Canton Street, Stoughton, MA 02072; or the Massachusetts Teachers Association non-profit, The Massachusetts Child, which supports educators assisting students facing financial hardships; The Massachusetts Child, MTA Division of Communications, 2 Heritage Dr., 8th floor, Quincy, MA 02171.
