Robert Kenny Obituary

Robert Maurice Kenny, 80, of Belmont and Scituate, formerly of Arlington and Cambridge, passed away peacefully at his home on February 8, 2021.  Bob was the loving husband of Barbara (Sweeney) Kenny for 53 years and beloved father of David of Billerica, Kristen of Belmont, Carolyn Cataldo and her husband Marc of Wakefield, and Timothy and his wife Jessica of Kingston, MA.

A devoted family man, he was the adored Grandfather of Caitlin, Olivia, Megan, Hannah, Cecilia, and Michael Robert. Dear brother of Marilyn and her husband John Connelly of Milton, Thomas Kenny and his wife Mary Ann of Falmouth, and brother-in-law of Janice Kenny of Centerville, wife of his late brother John.  Cherished “Uncle Bob” of his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his loving parents, Maurice and Margaret Kenny.

As a proud and loyal graduate of Matignon High School, Boston College, class of 1961, and Suffolk University Law School, class of 1969, Bob enjoyed attending many alumni activities at all these fine institutions.  An avid sports fan, Bob was a longtime Boston College season ticket holder for both football and basketball. For 35 years he valued his position at Ropes and Gray as a Tax Accounting Supervisor, retiring in 2009 to open his own practice.

One of Bob’s greatest joys, dating back to his childhood, was spending time in Scituate with his family and many friends. A past president and active lifetime member of the Scituate Beach Association,Bob embraced the family culture promoted in the Sand Hills community.  Bob was known to always be sitting on his front porch on Turner Road, saying hello to everyone who walked by on the way to the beach or the Lighthouse. In recent years, to the delight of his children and grandchildren, Bob enjoyed family vacations to Disney World, a Christmas weekend in New York City, and a 50th Anniversary Cruise to Bermuda.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Nativity in Scituate on Monday.  A celebration of Bob’s life will be planned for this summer.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made in his memory to a charity near to his heart that was co-founded by his nephew Michael Connelly: the Boston Bullpen Project.

Donations may be sent to: Boston Bullpen Project  PO Box 920512 Needham, MA 02492 (www.bostonbullpenproject.org)
