Rita E. (Pizzoni) Haverty, 92, passed peacefully from this world on October 21, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased in death by her parents Anthony and Tillie Pizzoni and a brother George Pizzoni of Watertown and her loving husband of 52 years David J. Haverty. She is survived by her children David and his wife Jane of Belmont, Jack and his wife Kim of Mattapoisett, Dan and his wife Doreen of Whitinsville, Kevin and his wife Nancy of Wellesley, Christine of Belmont, and a niece Ellen Quirk and her husband Brian of Naples Florida, in addition to many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rita was raised in Watertown Massachusetts where she was an active member of the class of 1950. She worked at Hood Rubber Company before meeting her future husband David, a decorated Marine from the Pacific Campaigns of World War II. The couple soon married and ventured across the town line to raise their children in David’s hometown of Belmont. Rita immersed herself in her children’s many activities in the town volunteering as a den mother in the Cub Scouts, a Brownie leader and CCD teacher among her many contributions. She could always be found in the crowd cheering her children’s modest and occasionally failed athletic pursuits, but her message of grit and determination served them well into adulthood. In later years she returned to a career at UPS where she would eventually retire and pursue her travel dreams with her husband in their final years.
Rita was never happier than hosting large family gatherings and rarely did a holiday pass without a visitor of her children joining the celebration, mostly without notice, but never without welcome. Her selfless devotion and tireless commitment to family and friends will be deeply missed as she enters eternal rest.
