Rev. Thomas Francis Mahoney, 87, a Roman Catholic priest for 60 years, died December 29 in San Diego, California, where he resided. The cause of death was respiratory failure due to Covid-19.
Born August 26, 1935, in Massachusetts, Rev. Mahoney spent his formative years in Newton and Scituate prior to entering the priesthood. He was predeceased by his parents Roland and Eleanor Greaney Mahoney, and his siblings John, Roland, Maureen and Mark. He is survived by his brother Michael and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday January 6, 2023 at 10am at St. Ignatius Catholic Church In Chestnut Hill, where Rev. Mahoney celebrated his first Mass. Rev. Mahoney’s nephew, Rev. Thomas A. Mahoney, will be the celebrant. Visitation will take place one half hour beforehand in the church. Interment will follow at Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline.
