Pamela Sylvia Larson 79 of Belmont, MA passed on Friday September 27 after a long battle with Gall Bladder Cancer. She passed at the Care Dimensions Hospice in Lincoln. MA.
Pam was born in Washington DC on October 8, 1944. After the war she was raised in Exeter, NH by her parents George Henry Lapham and E. Sylvia Lapham. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Kent.
Pam was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and later a Masters Degree in Organic Chemistry. Pam was privileged to work in the color lab at Polaroid Corporation, Cambridge, MA. While working at Polaroid she wanted to know how chemicals affected our lives. As a result of this curiosity Pam eventually enrolled in MIT’s graduate program where she earned her Doctorate degree in Toxicology. While at MIT she worked with aflatoxin and liver cancer. Upon graduation Pam researched breast cancer at Boston University School of Medicine. In retirement she constantly kept up with cancer publications. She was also a longtime member of the American Chemical Society.
Pam enjoyed her love of gardening and nature as a member of the Belmont Garden Club. Her yard and gardens were designed to attract birds. Her love of nature found us traveling to many of the National Parks to hike and camp. Often travel to the parks was by train.
Pam along with her husband Kent were members of the Massachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts for over fifty years. During this time, she actively participated in helping to organize railroad excursions along with her husband Kent. She also enjoyed talking trains as a part of the RRE show crew at many model railroad train shows.
Pam and her husband actively enjoyed sharing their interests. Pam was blessed by having family, true loving friends and good neighbors.
