Nancy Vasil Obituary

Nancy Susan Vasil, 85, of Lincoln, Massachusetts, died on June 9, 2023, from Supranuclear Palsey.

Nancy was born on May 21, 1938, to Russell and Marion West. She lived with them and her devoted older sister Carole in Brockton, MA. As a very young child, she spent a few years with
her aunt and uncle (Myrtle & Chappie) in Bangor, Maine, and always shared a close relationship with them.

After graduating from Brockton High School, she studied nursing at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she received her RN. She worked as a nurse in many different settings, including
hospitals, as a visiting nurse, and in group homes for the State of Connecticut.

Nancy met her husband, Thomas Vasil when she was just fourteen years old. They dated for seven years before marrying in 1959. Nancy and Tom began married life in Massachusetts but
spent most of their professional lives in Storrs, Connecticut.

Nancy and Tom had three daughters and eight grandchildren. Nancy was a devoted wife and mother, and adored her role as a grandmother. While she herself was not a musician, the rest of
the family was, and she was their most devoted fan, attending as many concerts and shows as she could. Time with the extended family on both the West and Vasil sides was important to her as
well, and she often hosted the whole family for the holidays and special events. She was known for her Christmas Eve Swedish Smorgasbord and also learned to cook many Albanian dishes
from Tom’s mother.

Nancy and Tom were active members of the Episcopal church wherever they lived. They modeled for their daughters a life of prayer and giving to the church. At their church in Storrs,
Nancy ran a huge fundraiser every fall, baking apple pies for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The whole family spent many happy days in the church kitchen making pies with other community
members. In her retirement, she became a Eucharistic Visitor with Tom, spending many Sunday afternoons visiting the sick and shut-in.

Nancy’s favorite place was the beach. She loved “riding the waves” with her children and grandchildren and building sand castles. She excelled at packing the cooler full of beach treats
for everyone! She also enjoyed boating and was a very skilled water skier when she was young. Nancy also loved gardening! She had huge vegetable gardens every summer and spent long
hours caring for her yard. Her freezer in the basement was always filled to the brim with veggies for the family to eat all winter long.

Nancy is pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Thomas Vasil. She is survived by her daughters, Beth Anne (Bryan)Young of Lakeville, MA, Cheryl (Paul) Minor of Belmont, MA, Cynthia
(David) Branch of Huntersville, NC, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. The funeral and burial will be held at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans, MA, on July 30,
2023, at 2:00 pm. Donations in memory of Nancy can be made to the All Saints’ Church Memorial Fund. Mail to: All Saints’ Church, 17 Clark Street, Belmont, MA
