Nancy Slavinsky Obituary

With great sorrow, we announce the death of Nancy Bliss Slavinsky on August 20, 2018. She passed away peacefully at Parlin Hospice. Nancy was pre-deceased by her loving husband, John, after 56 years of marriage. Nancy was born in New York City on February 17, 1930. She was the daughter of Claribel Smith Bliss and John Henry Bliss.  She is survived by her sons Andrew and Caleb, one grandson, and one great grand daughter, in addition to her brother Thomas Hooker Bliss. Her formative years were spent in Ridgewood, New Jersey and Washingtonville, New York. She was valedictorian of her class. Nancy went on to Wellesley College where she graduated in 1951. Following graduation, Nancy remained in the Boston area and worked in Settlement Houses as well as being Librarian of the Belmont Library. She was well known in the community for her volunteer works which included Perkins School for the Blind, Payson Park Church in Belmont where she was a beloved member, and also many other charitable endeavors. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 6th at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. All are invited to the graveside service, and then afterwards to the collation reception held in Payson Park Church, 365 Belmont Street, Belmont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of Nancy to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon St, Watertown, MA 02472, or to Payson Park Church, 365 Belmont St, Belmont, MA 02478.
