Maureen Lynn (Grant) Curtin, 80, of Estero, FL, formerly of Middleton, NH, and Cambridge, MA, passed away on October 8, 2025.
Born in 1945 to Margaret A. and George F. Grant, Maureen grew up in a lively household with five siblings. She attended Newton High School, where she played field hockey, and later earned an associate’s degree in radiologic technology from Northeastern University. Maureen was proud of her career as an X-ray Technician, working at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge and Lahey Clinic in Boston.
Maureen and her beloved husband, Joseph J. Curtin, began their family in Watertown, MA, before settling in Joe’s hometown of Cambridge. Together, they raised three children in a close-knit neighborhood surrounded by friends and family. Maureen was a devoted mother and active community member, serving as both a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, and teaching Sunday School at Sacred Heart Church in Watertown—the same church where she and Joe were married.
After working for a period at the IRS Archives, Maureen spent 15 years working “mother’s hours” as a bookkeeper for the Star Market Loss Prevention Office, balancing her career with her dedication to her family. A love of the outdoors began in childhood, camping with her parents and siblings, and she passed this tradition on to her own family. Summers camping in New Hampshire led to the purchase of a home at Sunrise Lake in Middleton, where Maureen and Joe eventually retired. She cherished time spent boating with family and friends and served on the Board for the Rochester District VNA.
Maureen and Joe enjoyed many cruise vacations with lifelong friends and later embraced the “snowbird” lifestyle in Estero, FL, where she delighted in shopping, beach outings, and water aerobics.
Creativity was a constant in Maureen’s life. She was a talented seamstress and craftswoman, making everything from clothing to Christmas decorations. Her skills included knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, painting, ceramics, upholstery, and cake decorating—her hands were rarely still.
Maureen is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 60 years, Joseph J. Curtin; her children, Maureen L. Stahl and her husband Matthew of Charlestown, RI, Brian J. Curtin and his wife Laurie Luck of Billerica, MA, and Mark J. Curtin of Sanbornton, NH, and his fiancée Mary Sullivan; her cherished grandchildren, Alexandra and Anna Curtin, and Emma, Joseph, and Daisy Curtin; and her sister, Alice Shepherd. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Ellen Dragunas and Margaret Gorman, and her brothers Frank and George Grant.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for visiting hours in Sacred Heart Parish 770 Mt. Auburn St., Watertown, on Monday, October 20th, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Cambridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Maureen will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
