Mary G (Pandy) Smith

Mary G. (Pandy) Smith of Hingham, formerly of Lynnfield passed away peacefully in Hingham on July 20 at the age of 92 just eight days short of her 93rd birthday. Born in Boston on July 28, 1931, she was the daughter of the late James and Olga (Georgagi) Keko who emigrated from Albania in the late 1920’s. Mary was a graduate of Somerville High and Kathleen Dell. Mary was a hair stylist until she had her two daughters after which she stayed home to raise them. Mary was a beautiful woman inside and out, who dressed impeccably and carried herself with grace and style. Mary was a devoted and doting daughter to her parents and a wonderful and loving mother to her daughters. Mary’s first joy was spending time with her family. She also loved to dance, paint, ski, golf, needlepoint, travel, decorate and entertain. She was very proud of her Albanian heritage and culture. Mary was the beloved wife of the late George R. Pandy who passed in 1997 and Gerard Smith who passed in 2009. She was the devoted mother of Michelle Cooley and her husband Edward of Hingham, Karen VanLoon and her husband William of Woburn. She is survived by 4 grandchildren, Matthew Cooley and his wife Sarah, Andrew Cooley, Whitney VanLoon, and Cameron VanLoon. Mary was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She especially loved her role as Gjyshe and gave her grandchildren unconditional love. A visitation for Mary will be held in St. George’s Albanian Orthodox Church 523 East Broadway, South Boston on Friday July 26th from 10:00 - 11:00 AM followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Mary will be interred at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. George’s Albanian Orthodox Church.
