TRAVERS, Mary F. (O’Connor), of East Cambridge and South Dennis, originally from Cromane Upper, Killorglin County Kerry, Ireland, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home on August 1, 2023. Devoted wife of Robert V. Travers. Loving mother of Robert V. Travers, Jr. Sister of Johnny O’Connor and his wife Mary, the late sister Hanoria (Joan) Sullivan and late husband Joseph; late sister Bridget Woulfe and her husband William and sister-in-law of the late Joseph and Helen Travers and Barbara and William Gillespie. Survived by loving and
caring nieces and nephews in Massachusetts, Ireland, and Australia especially Maureen Monagle.
Mary immigrated from Ireland in 1959, became a US citizen in 1963 where she began a 50-year career cooking and housekeeping in 26 different parishes of the Archdiocese of Boston including Sacred Heart Parish, East Cambridge to finally cooking for Cardinal Seán O’Malley. Mary also worked many years as a Cook in the Cambridge Public Schools for the school children of Cambridge. Late member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and recipient of the Cheverus Medal of the Archdiocese of Boston.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 9 th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 48 Sixth Street Cambridge. Funeral Mass will follow on Thursday, August 10 th at 10:00 AM celebrated by His Eminence, Seán Cardinal O’Malley, OFM Cap., Archbishop of Boston. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
