Known as MaryLou, Mom, and Nana, to those who loved her most, Mary Louise Ahearn passed away on July 17, 2024, at the age of 98. Lifetime resident of Belmont, Massachusetts, Mary Lou devoted her life to her family, her church, and her community. She was a member of The Belmont Garden Club, The Friends of Belmont Library, and The Belmont Historical Society. For years, she volunteered at the Green House earning the title of CEO, and once won the Betty Levine Award for her flower arrangement at the Boston Flower Show. Most recently she was an active member of the Counsel on Aging, and St. Luke’s Prayer Shawl Group. Once a tour guide for Executours, she had many interests. She was an avid reader who enjoyed painting, sewing, tennis, and swimming. In the summertime, her favorite place to be was at the beach with her family. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Ahearn. She is survived by her children, MaryJane (Richard) Kenrick, Kathy Galbraith, Ann (Mark) Underwood, Joseph (Mitsuko Komori) Ahearn, Ellen (Robert) Dutile, and Eileen Ahearn. Her grandchildren, Christine Kenrick, Melissa (Anthony) Schlies, Elizabeth (Brian) Douglas, Jennifer (Robbie) Monahan, Heather (Isaac Bean) Underwood, Megan (Aaron) McNeal, Kelly (Yves) Underwood, Michael Adler, Robert Dutile, and John Dutile. Her great-grandchildren, Jason McNeal, Maeve Monahan, Abigail Douglas, Audrey McNeal, Anna Douglas, Ronan Monahan, Paisley Monahan, James Douglas, Colin McNeal, with a tenth great-grandchild on the way.
Funeral from Brown & Hickey Funeral Home, 36 Trapelo Rd, Belmont, on Tuesday morning, July 23 at 9:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in The Church of Saint Luke, 132 Lexington St. Belmont at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4:00 - 7:00 PM. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Arlington.
