Marion Hockman Obituary

Marion Mulcahey Hockman, 73, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on September 27, 2022 surrounded by her family. Marion lived a life full of laughter and joy. Those who know her will remember her warm embrace and loving smile.

Marion was born in Somerville on July 8, 1949 to the late Florence (Cidado) and Robert Mulcahey. She was a graduate of Arlington High School.   After high school, Marion worked for State Street Bank in Boston. In 1970 Marion went on a blind date with Donn Hockman, they married on October 6, 1973 and the rest is history.

Marion is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years Donald Hockman of Medford, formerly of Cambridge, and her two children, Andrew Hockman and his wife Arlene Hockman of Oviedo, FL and her daughter Amanda Kierce and her husband Christopher Kierce of North Andover. Among her survivors are her brother, Robert Mulcahey and his wife Elaine Mulcahey, and her sister, Maureen O’Brien and her husband Kenneth O’Brien. Marion is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Sloane Hockman, and Christopher, Cole and Patrick Kierce, as well as many admiring nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marion was born to be a mother and a nana. Everything she did, she did for her family. They are blessed to have spent so much time together over the years. Marion was devoted to helping others. Whether she was giving a ride to kids around Cambridge or anywhere in the metro Boston area, preparing a meal, sending a card to celebrate a milestone, or providing childcare to the countless families she touched over the years, she did it with the greatest of care.

Marion loved road trips, being on time-possibly 30 minutes early, creating elaborate halloween costumes, well-done steak, Nantucket baskets, The View, photography, the Red Sox, diet coke, people watching, jewelry making, being Maureen’s sister and spending time (and money) with her, adirondack chairs, identifying flaws, outings with the “Aunties”, potato chips, the band Chicago, Oprah, mocha almond ice cream, meals near water, her husband, Blue Bloods, holding babies, bags, garlic, broadway performances, family gatherings, laughter, Carly Simon, reading, craft fairs, Fleetwood Mac, Christmasses in Connecticut, Law & Order, trips to NYC, Naples ME-especially sunsets on Long Lake, and most of all watching her kids’ or grandkids’ games and performances.

Marion will be remembered for her creativity, punctuality, thoughtfulness and all the love she showered everyone in sealed with her trademarked hugs.
