Margaret Goostray Obituary

Margaret Ruth Goostray of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 31st, 2023. Born in Coatesville Pennsylvania on February 25th 1934. She was the daughter of the late Reverend Frank and Eva (Magennis) Goostray. She was a 1955 graduate of Radcliffe College with a degree in History and Literature; and later received a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Simmons University. In 1963, she began to work at the Chenery Library at Boston University, and became Assistant Director when the Mugar Library opened in 1966. She retired in 1997 as Associate Director of Special Collections at Boston University. After many years of companionship, Margaret married Craig WC Brown at Christ Church Cambridge in 1998. Margaret enjoyed art and visiting the Museum of Fine Arts Boston; visiting her sister Jane at Endion in Long Lake NY; and the chocolate cakes Craig would bake for her birthday. Margaret is predeceased by her parents, her sister Jane Bissell, her nephew Timothy Bissell; and her loving husband Craig. Margaret is survived by her nephew Tom Bissell Jr and his companion Christine Campeau; and good friends Ellen Gillmore; and Neil Judell and Kathy Glover who always brought her favorite Tate’s chocolate chip cookies.
 

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Brown & Hickey Funeral Home. A Memorial Service and interment will take place at the Mount Auburn Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Margaret’s honor, may be made to the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and the Mugar Library at Boston University.
