Lieby (Holland) Bouchard

Lieby (Miedma) Bouchard Of Lowell and Cambridge, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023, after a short illness. She was 87 years old. She is survived by her husband, Al, of 60 years. Born in New York City, Lieby attended Bronx Science High School and Bard College. After college, Lieby received the Woodrow Wilson Scholarship to study social psychology at Harvard College for one year.  Pursuing a career as an abstract expressionist artist, she left Harvard, and studied in Europe and for 2½ years. Returning to NYC, she met her future husband, Alfred Bouchard.  The couple were married in 1963. During their long marriage, Lieby and Al lived in NYC, Maine, Cambridge, and in Lowell…for the past 23 years. While living in Cambridge in the 80’s, Lieby volunteered at the newly formed Harvard Square Churches Meal Program housed in Christ Church, Cambridge. Lieby became Project Director of the Meal Program in the summer of 1983 but remained committed to the Thursday night meal for the remainder of her life. Lieby gave a lecture the Harvard Divinity School on the subject of homelessness and hunger. Her dedication to those in need transcended almost everything else in her life. In 2010, Lieby was granted a Lifetime Achievement Award for “Extraordinary Community Service to the People of Cambridge” from the Cambridge Volunteer Clearinghouse for her 30 plus years as Project Director of the Harvard Square Churches Meal Program.  At her award ceremony at Cambridge City Hall, Lieby acknowledged that this award presented by the Mayor of Cambridge was the “fulfillment of a fantasy”. After, retiring from the Meal Program in 2013, Lieby remained very dedicated and involved. She will be remembered by colleagues, volunteers, and guests of the Thursday Night Meal as the creative, positive force behind the 42-year life of the Harvard Square Churches Meal Program. She devoted her life’s energies to the Meal Program as well, as to her husband Al, her art, and her dogs. Lieby will be fondly remembered and not easily forgotten.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Mass in St. Peter's Church, 100 Concord Ave., Cambridge, MA, on Saturday April 6th, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Please omit flowers.
