Obituary

Laura M. (Bondi) Carchia of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Sep 15th 2022. Daughter of Joseph and Elena Bondi. Beloved sister of the late Joseph Bondi and his Wife Herta Bondi. Loving Aunt to Joseph Bondi (Pam Bondi), Michele Bottesi and the late Belinda Bondi. Also survived by great nieces and nephews, Allison Bondi, Morgan Bondi, Andre Bottesi, Nicholas Bottesi, and Alyssa Bottesi.

Laura grew up in Brighton and attended St. Aidans School in Brookline. At Saint Aidans she met lifelong friends who then formed “The Club.”  “The Club” met regularity throughout life for lunches, parties, and get-togethers. Well into the members 80’s.  This close knit group includes Nancy Foppiano, Joanne Frawley (deceased), Carol Gleason (deceased), Kathleen Cadigan Allison, Roberta Rossetti, and Laura.

Laura was a Graduate of Simmons College with a Bachelor’s Degree in the Class of 1955. After returning to Simmons she earned a Master’s Degree in Library Science. Her Simmons experience was a source of pride and joy and accomplishment. She had retained her friendships throughout all these years with her Simmons Classmates.  According to Laura’s Simmons College friend Rita, all say: “To know Laura is to Love Laura.”

Throughout her life Laura was a lifelong learner and academic at heart. She lived according to the belief that life is meant to be enjoyed and shared with others. Her lifelong friendships are a true testament to her vivacity and captivating nature.

After College Laura worked for the Lord.  Milton Lord, that is, Director of Boston Libraries.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology Libraries, Sloan Building, the Industrial Relations Department was Laura’s next career stop. One that lasted for over 30 years. Laura loved being a part of the process to develop the future leaders.  She was also a member of the MIT Quarter Century Club.

At MIT in 1961 she met 2 people who become more lifelong friends, Marie Louise and David Gabbe. The relationship was very close right to this day. Marie Louise still remembers all the Fourth of July parties Laura held at the apartment on Memorial Drive. Right in front of the Fire Works Barge on the Charles River. What a view!

Later in her life journey Laura became a dedicated member of the Metro West Social Club of Framingham. From this group she met another person who became a lifelong friend, Charles Raworth. According to Charles Laura was “The most kind and caring person. Anyone who met her became friends for life.”

Others from the Social Club have said: “Laura was always cheerful.  She radiated happiness with her smile and her laughter was contagious to  those around her.  She was a perpetual optimist, hopeful person.”
