Joseph Silvestro Obituary

Joseph "Big Joey'' Silvestro died peacefully on Monday, May 4th in Belmont, Massachusetts at the age of 77.

Joseph is survived by his son, Joseph Jr., and his children Isabella and Joseph III of Weymouth; daughter, Marni Jones, her husband Christian, and their son, Isaiah of Lincoln; his brother Roy and wife Lydia of Belmont; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Sarah and Salvatore of Medford, as well as his brother John of Stoneham and his wife Jean.

Joseph was born on May 30, 1942 in Boston, MA to Sarah and Salvatore. He graduated from Medford High School, and married Mary Cantone Silvestro in 1968. They welcomed their children, Joseph Jr. and Marni in 1969 and 1971, respectively.

He worked as a fishmonger with his brothers in the family business on the Boston Fish Pier and was an avid stock options trader. He passionately enjoyed photography, tennis, BMWs, jazz, classical, folk, rock, and Broadway music, and politics, which he shared with his children. He always wished he could have lived in Lake Wobegon of Prairie Home Companion, but his favorite place in the world was the Russell family home in Long Beach, Gloucester, Massachusetts. He loved sailing, the ocean, and all Boston sports: the Celtics, Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, and even the Dallas Cowboys.

A celebration of Joseph’s life will be announced in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES.org) who helped him remain independent and in his home for many years.

The family would like to thank the staff at Belmont Manor Nursing Home for their dedication to his care and well-being.
