JONATHAN P. BROWER 1938 - 2022
With great sadness, the family of Jonathan Brower announces his passing. At 84 years old, he passed away peacefully on June 28th, in company of his loved ones.
Jonathan was a kindhearted and happy-by-default gentleman, who always saw the good in everyone. He was born and raised in Massachusetts. In his twenties decided to take upon a career in helping others. He traveled to Haiti, where he helped communities build a school (that is still standing, even after a couple of natural disasters!). He treasured the experiences and friendships he acquired from that project. He traveled to Venezuela, where he worked with the “barrios”, with a special focus on education. In one of the projects he participated in Venezuela, he met the love of his life (Esperanza), who became his wife for 52 years. He then worked as a translator (English/Spanish) until he retired.
Jonathan is survived by his wife, Esperanza Brower, his daughter, Amelia Brower, his sons-in-law Gilles Simler and Jose Vicente Aguerrevere, his grandchildren Elena Simler, Matteo Simler, Vicente Aguerrevere and Santiago Aguerrevere, his siblings, Richard Brower and Ellen Brower and a large and dear extended family in the USA and Venezuela. Jonathan now joins Lucia Brower, his youngest daughter, in heaven.
He loved being a grandfather and was always sweet and attentive to his family. He treasured his life-long friendships. He loved music (from Placido Domingo to Frank Sinatra). Illness did not extinguish his love for life and at 79 years old, he decided to take on learning to play the piano! He was a very dedicated student. His love and commitment for the piano and towards his cherished piano teacher, Vida Navid, remained intact.
The family will hold a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Friends of Matènwa (www.matenwa.org) a non-profit organization near and dear Jonathan’s heart, that focuses on building community support through participatory education in Haiti.
