John Ebert Obituary

John Higgins Ebert died on May 21, 2023, after a sustained illness. John was born to Emily Hirsch Ebert and Robert Higgins Ebert, MD  in Kansas City, Missouri, on August 15, 1944. John grew up in Chicago and Cleveland and graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 1974. John then moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where his parents had relocated and ultimately bought a home in Belmont in 1980, where he lived until his death.

John was a loyal and generous friend and maintained a lively and eclectic social circle throughout his life. Friends and family enjoyed John's wickedly sly sense of humor, which he combined with a natural curiosity that made him able to speak comfortably to people from all walks of life.

John was predeceased by his mother and father and his beloved nephew, Professor Christopher Schmidt-Nowara of Sommerville. He is survived by his sister, Betsy Schmidt-Nowara, brother Thomas Ebert, MD, nephew Peter Schmidt-Nowara, niece Molly Schmidt-Nowara, nephew William Ebert, niece Ruth Ebert, and step-mother, Barbara Bacheller Ebert. He is also remembered and celebrated by his many friends, most especially Gopbinsingh Parasram (affectionately known as Sami) and Autumn Anderson. He will be missed.

Should friends desire to do so, memorial contributions in John's name may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
