Joan MacKenzie Obituary

Joan MacKenzie, of Summerfield, Florida, and Wells, Maine, formerly of Waltham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday surrounded by her loving family. Born in Belmont, Massachusetts, to Dorothy (Butt) and Frank Giacolone, Joan lived a full and vibrant life centered on family, hard work, and community. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald MacKenzie, with whom she shared 69 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2021. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four children — William MacKenzie and his wife Nanci, Gary MacKenzie and his wife Karen, David MacKenzie and his wife, the late Kathleen Chick, and Wendy Aimola and her husband David. Joan was a proud grandmother to Jennifer DiRico and her husband Mike, Ross MacKenzie and his wife Nicole, and Scott MacKenzie and his wife Hayley, and a cherished great-grandmother to Daniella, Sophianna, Griffin, Noella, and Mia. Her family was the heart of her world, and she found her greatest joy in their love and accomplishments.

Joan and Donald worked tirelessly together in several family businesses. Most recently, the Quick and Clean Carwashes in Waltham and Wakefield. Their entrepreneurial spirit and dedication left a lasting legacy for their children to carry on.

Upon retirement, Joan and Donald enjoyed the best of both worlds — spending winters in Florida and summers in Maine. They embraced an active lifestyle filled with golf, travel, and the company of dear friends hosting many holidays and gatherings. Joan was a proud member of the Cape Neddick Country Club for more than three decades. Her competitive spirit and love of the game shone through in countless ladies’ league events, tournaments, and golf outings across New England.

Joan will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and generous heart — a woman devoted to her family and friends. Her legacy of love and perseverance will continue to inspire all who knew her.
