James “Jim” Saunders, of Cambridge and Fall River, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, after a brief illness. He was 78.
Jim spent much of his life in the Cambridge area and retired from Verizon after many years of dedicated work. He was a proud member of the IBEW Local 2222.
He is survived by the love of his life, Sheila Linehan; his siblings, Carol Bento (William), Peter Saunders, Sally Rego (Kenneth), Paul Saunders (Veronica), and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were like family to him. He was predeceased by his parents, James & Virginia (Waring) Saunders.
Jim was a man of few words, but his quiet presence spoke volumes. He was a great golfer and an avid horseman. He loved vacationing in Newport, RI, and Saratoga Springs, NY, a good Dark & Stormy, and the simple pleasures of retirement. He was always ready for a road trip, where he could enjoy good meals and conversation with strangers who would become friends.
Those who knew Jim knew they could always count on him. He would do anything for anyone. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visiting hours in Sacred Heart Church, 770 Mt. Auburn St, Watertown, Saturday, May 30th, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. His burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Watertown Catholic Collaborative Food Pantry, 26 R Chestnut Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
