Irene Holland Obituary

Irene M. Holland of Nashua, NH passed away at home on August 14th, 2024. Irene was born on June 17th, 1941 in Boston, MA. She grew up in Somerville and Belmont, MA. Irene was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Cambridge, MA. She earned a BA in American Studies from Cardinal Cushing College in Brookline, MA. Upon graduating, she was a secondary school teacher for four years and then switched careers to the business world. She held positions in marketing and sales at various companies in New York, Texas, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Irene lived a life full of adventure and community. After retiring, she embraced her love for travel, embarking on memorable journeys with her many cherished friends. Whether it was a breathtaking cruise to Alaska, exploring the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas, or immersing herself in the rich culture of China, Irene's spirit of exploration knew no bounds. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, frequently visiting the landscapes of Cape Cod, the coastlines of Maine visiting her brother Donald, and visiting her sister Ann and brother Frankie, taking in the waters of Lake Winnipesaukee. Her love for new experiences also extended to the vibrant atmosphere of festivals, where she found joy and connection with others. A true pillar of her community, Irene was surrounded by countless friends who admired her warmth and generosity. Her passion for learning continued well into her senior years, as she took courses at Rivier University and was an active member of the RISE (Rivier Institute for Senior Education) program and various other groups. Irene's zest for life, dedication to her community, and unending curiosity left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Irene was predeceased by her parents, Jeremiah Holland of Bere Island, Ireland and Margaret (Sullivan) Holland of Castletown Bere, Ireland. She is survived by her younger sister Ann M (Holland) Callahan, and her children Maureen Ace, Kerry Hall, Annmarie Genetti, and Daniel Callahan. Also her younger brother Francis Holland, his wife Cynthia, and their children Maegan Kelley and Micaela Johnston.  Her late brother, Donald Holland, and his children Donald Holland Jr, Cheryl Holland, and Tracy Maynard. She loved all of her many great nieces and nephews, Jessica, Shawn, Lindsay, Ashley, Kayla, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Joseph, Jack, James, Jacqueline, Daniel, Kiera, Liam, Ailish and Remy.

A visitation will be held in St. Joseph Church 130 Common St., Belmont, on Thursday morning, August 22nd from 9:00 - 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will follow in Belmont Cemetery, Belmont. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Irene, came be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
