March 10, 1945 – March 29, 2023
Weston, MA – Horace Clifford “Cliff” Smith, III, of Weston, MA, passed away on March 29, 2023 after brief illness. He was born and raised in Waltham, MA and is predeceased by his parents, Horace Clifford Smith, Jr. and Avis W. (Powell) Smith. In his youth he enjoyed many sports, including hockey, and developed many lasting friendships.
Cliff graduated from the North Bennett Street Industrial School in Boston where he majored in Cabinet and Furniture Making. He was a skilled craftsman and built beautiful furniture. He later started a career in pest control at Waltham Chemical before launching his own successful business, J&L Exterminating, that he continued until retirement. “Bugs are forever!”
Cliff’s sense of compassion is shown by the years of dedication caring for his mother and his Aunt Juliette (Jaye) Powell. Cliff will be remembered as a proud and loyal friend with an endless sense of humor. He was quick with a joke, had a sharp memory, enjoyed ‘shooting the baloney’ with friends, and made daily visits to the finest restaurants and best diners around. He was a loyal Boston sports fan and friends were fortunate to spend an afternoon with him at None Such Pond in Weston.
Cliff was a master at everything he did including building a stone wall; maintaining a pristine yard; fixing anything; and, above all, lived life on his own terms. He is survived by relatives and many lifelong friends.
