Ernest "Ted" L. Ackley III

August 17, 1935 ~ August 10, 2020 (age 84)

Ernest L. Ackley III, known to all as “Ted”, passed away Aug 10, 2020. Ted was born August 17, 1935 in St. Louis, MO. After spending his childhood in Arkansas, Colorado and Missouri, he attended Tulane University in New Orleans where he studied Business. After graduation, while serving in the Army Reserves at Fort Devons, he met his future wife, Nancy Durocher. They returned to New Orleans where he graduated from Tulane University Law School. They both had fond memories of living in the French Quarter. After several years, they returned to the Boston area where they started their family and he began his career in law.

Ted found his happiest time in life when his first grandson was born in 2003. Being a grandfather gave him joy on a daily basis. He became known as Poppy not only to his family, but all of their friends; he had a lovable personality that easily drew people to him. He was always engaged in whatever activities or causes his children and grandchildren were a part of. He could often be seen chasing the grandkids and their friends around the playground, he never hesitated to sled down the hill with them or play Red Skull. As Poppy, he was one of the kids.
Ted was also able to enjoy these later years with his devoted partner Joanne Perrotta by his side. She filled his days with love.

He is survived by his son Doug Ackley, of Rochester, NY, his wife Mary Staropoli and their daughters Sadie and Keira; his daughter Meghan of Holliston, MA and her children David and Carly; and his daughter Caitlin Reeves, of The Woodlands, TX , her husband Jared and their children Maggie and Ethan.

A graveside service will be held in the Belmont Cemetery 121 Grove Street Belmont on Saturday Aug. 15 at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Due to Covid-19, masks must be worn and social distancing maintained.
