Diane Mary (Barbour) Watson of Somerville, formerly of Cambridge, MA, died May 07, 2026. She was born in Cambridge, MA to parents Alice M. (Butler) and Earl L. Barbour. Known to her family and friends as a shy, yet outgoing person, Diane was the sister of Annemarie Hackett of Cambridge (spouse Ken), both deceased; Elizabeth Dorsey of Brookline (spouse Norman, deceased); Carole Rutherford of Hudson (spouse Dewey, deceased); and Dale Kapp of Falmouth (spouse Paul). She will be fondly remembered as Auntie Diane, by many neices and nephews.
She was raised in Cambridge, attended St. Peters Grammer school, and graduated from Cambridge High & Latin High School. She went on to pursue coursework in finance. Diane spent her professional life in accounting, employed at 2 companies in Cambridge, MA.
Crocheting, a passion of our maternal grandmother’s; and, knitting a passion of our mother’s, were also handicrafts Diane enjoyed. Weather thread or yarn, Diane created beautiful items like afghans, table cloths, table runners, and a beautiful jacket. In her earlier years, she loved drawing and focused on fashion design, just for the fun of it. She loved to cook and tried different recipes that she created with love…and, they were delicious. While Diane had many healthy, self sustained years, her later life was one of mental health challenges, that she patiently managed daily; and, a short courageous battle with cancer.
There are no words to express how loved Diane was, and how much she will be missed. We are grateful for her presence in our lives, and will carry her with us always.
Diane will be laid to rest in the family plot at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge. Condolences can be left for the family on the guest book located on the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home’s webpage.
To honor Diane’s life, in lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be sent to American Residential Treatment Association (ARTA) at https://www.artusa.org.
