David Lautaro Nahuelhuen Stoneman-Bell (Taro) passed away in Beth Israel Hospital early in the morning of April 19th, surrounded by his mother, father, sister, and partner of 17 years. Taro was 37 years old. He was born on March 21, 1988, in Santiago, Chile. At four months of age, he became a wonderful adopted member of the Stoneman-Bell family. He is survived by his father, John Bell; his mother, Dorothy Stoneman; his sister, Sierra Stoneman-Bell; his brother-in-law Fernando Aguilera; his nephew, Antu Stoneman-Aguilera, and his partner, Jillian Lea. He has many cousins, god-sisters, god-brothers, and a loving extended family.
Taro grew up in Belmont, MA. He attended Winn Brook Elementary School, as did his sister and his mother. He graduated from the Minuteman Career Technical High School, where he majored in autobody repair and was elected the school’s friendliest student. He went on to study at Middlesex Community College for two years. He subsequently worked as a driver and a loving provider of childcare and dog care. He and his high school girlfriend, Jillian Lea, became loyal partners for the rest of his life.
Taro was known for his sweet and caring spirit, his brotherly and lasting love for friends and family, his dedication to dogs and cars, his enjoyment of computer games and movies, his appreciation for nature. He was kind, welcoming, sensitive, and playful. He made easy connections, was generous with his attention and care, and put people at ease. He had a wonderful way with children. Taro had a life of fun and adventures along with struggles and hardships which he overcame to lead the life he did. He will live on in our hearts and minds forever and will be deeply missed.
As he grew older, he embraced his Mapuche heritage, the Indigenous people of his birth mother and country, Chile. He was named after Lautaro, the famous Mapuche warrior who led the resistance to the Spanish colonial invasion. A beloved and noble name. He also loved nature and animals. Therefore, donations in his honor may be made to the Indigenous Environmental Network, at https://www.ienearth.org/
