Daniel P. Murphy of Lexington, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025 surrounded by loving family and friends. Dan was the beloved son of the late Frederick & Mary (Ritsert) Murphy. Survived by his sister Debra M. Dorr, her husband Timothy and his nephews Cameron and Nicholas Dorr of Taunton. Also, survived by his aunt, Lucretia Ritsert of New Jersey, his brother Frederick R. Murphy Jr., wife Maria and niece Victoria of Maryland.
Dan was a 1982 graduate from Lexington High School, then went on to work as a Software Programmer for BULL Information Systems for many years. Despite his diving accident, Dan lived his life to the fullest. He was funny, kind, generous and unselfish in the way he lived his life and the way he always put others before himself. Dan loved his family foremost but he also loved spending his days gardening in his yard in Lexington, cooking, and traveling to Florida to enjoy the sunshine. Dan had a love for music and would always be arranging for outings with his friends and family to see a concert or theatre performance.
One of Dan’s greatest legacies is the dedication and devotion he had for our country’s military. He felt tremendous pride for the service his dad, brother-in-law, and many friends made to our country. Dan’s pride led him into service of his own for the military personnel by organizing and funding years of sending packages overseas to various troops, in every branch of the military. Dan, although he could not serve, exemplified honor, service and love for his country in his own ways.
Dan will be greatly missed by all who have had the privilege to know him and although he is no longer with us, he will always remain in our hearts. Let us live our lives as he lived his, with love, and kindness towards others.
A sincere heartfelt thank you to all of his personal caregivers and to the doctors, nurses and support staff at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center who cared for Danny tirelessly with compassion and supported his family through a very difficult time.
