Barbara Ann (Lennon) Trischitta, 92, of Belmont, MA passed away peacefully on August 28th 2023, in the comfort of her home on Statler Rd in Belmont, where her life as devoted wife and then mother all began.
Barbara was born April 28, 1931 in Arlington MA, daughter of the late Albert and Annie (Gormley) Lennon. Barbara’s siblings, Edward, Margaret and Mary also predeceased her. Barbara attended Arlington Public Schools before working for NEGA (Cambridge Electric Light), where she met the love of her life, Donald P Trischitta.
On October 24th 1953. Barbara and Don were married and soon settled into their two-family house, where they welcomed son Stephen. In 1959, they built a home in Burlington where they made new life-long friends and welcomed daughter Susan in 1960. It was here where Barbara began to truly hone her skills as mother and referee to two very energetic and competitive kids, among many others in the neighborhood. Donnie was born in 1966, after their return to Belmont at a new address. Barbara found joy in these years raising three student athletes for the Belmont Marauders, and took great pride in all things motherhood, from covering text books to organizing large post-season sports banquets.
Family and traditions were everything to Barbara, and the house on Munroe Street also served as the post for holidays, birthdays and pre-wedding events as the family grew larger. Barbara’s skills at hosting a dinner there made every occasion feel special--with a beautifully set table, cocktails & appetizers in the family room, and everyone’s favorite home-cooked meals served. Christmases spent there hold lasting memories, especially for her grandchildren, Kate & Will.
Barbara learned to sew from a young age with her mother. She made countless outfits and Halloween costumes through the years, and later became a true artist in the craft of needlepoint, learning various stitches and challenging patterns. She created priceless pieces for family and friends, having them expertly matted and framed, offering each of us a one-of-a kind gift of love.
When Don retired in 1991, He and Barbara spent more time traveling, and longer stints in their beloved home away from home, Coquina Cove in Naples FL. They loved the break from NE winters and the poolside chats with friends reunited each January from other parts of the country. It was there she most loved to boast about the jobs and feats held by her kids and grandkids, for which she felt proud and blessed.
In 2013, Barbara and Don came full circle, selling that large family home and returning to their cozy spot on Statler Rd, where Barbara enjoyed sitting by the window watching too the passersby, reading the Boston Globe and watching Jeopardy.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 70 years, Donald Trischitta; Her son, Stephen Trischitta of Belmont, MA; daughter Susan Stanley and husband Larry of Newton NH; son Donald Jr and wife Lisa, of Framingham, MA; Grandchildren Katherine and William of Framingham. The family wishes to thank Arosa Care and Beth Israel Hospice who provided assistance and care to Barbara in the last years, and Belmont EMS and Fire.
At the family's request the funeral service and burial will be private.
Rest easy Dear, Mom, Grammy, Barbara-- you have left your mark, and we are all the better for it.
