Albert Wright Obituary

On Thursday, April 22, 2021, Albert Bayard Wright, III (“Trey”), loving husband and father of three children and ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild, passed away at the age of 75 from complications associated with Lewy Body Dementia.

Trey was born on March 18, 1946, in Lockport, New York to Albert Bayard Wright, II and Elizabeth (Farley) Wright. On February 3, 1968, he married Maura McDonough, also from Lockport. They raised a daughter, Jennifer, and two sons, Andrew and Steven.

Trey received his undergraduate degree from Hamilton College in 1970 and his master in business administration degree from the State University of New York (Buffalo) in 1972. He worked for Welch Foods from 1972 until 2007, in Western New York, Michigan and Concord, Massachusetts. He retired as the company’s Chief Financial Officer and cherished his many friendships at the company and with the farmers of the National Grape Cooperative Association.

Trey was committed and devoted to his family, and loved nothing better than spending time with them on vacations, at home and especially at his summer home in Port Clyde, Maine. He was an avid reader and traveler and enjoyed working with his hands on projects as diverse as home improvement, helping his sons with Boy Scout soap box derby cars and building dollhouses for his granddaughters. He was also a vintage car enthusiast and for many years could be seen happily driving his 1941 Packard roadster convertible around the St. George Peninsula. Trey was a quiet and unfussy person, but was known as thoughtful, fair, kind and witty and his family, friends and colleagues all instinctively relied on his good judgment. Because of his gentle nature, he was an instant friend to all babies and dogs who loved his easy smile and soft-spoken manner.

Trey is survived by his wife, Maura, with whom he resided in Boston, Massachusetts; three children, Jennifer, Andrew and Steven; daughters-in-law, Tory Wright and Tracy DeTora, brothers Farley and Craig; grandchildren, Lily, Clara, Ella, Ciaran, Eaghan, Astrid, Mabel, Gemma, Alice, Lucy; great granddaughter, Amari, and a beloved extended family. Trey was preceded in death by his father, Bayard, and his mother, Betty.

The family will be holding a private gathering to commemorate Trey’s life at a later date. Trey and Maura have long been active in supporting medical research to better understand and treat Lewy Body Dementia and it was Trey’s wish that any charitable donations be made in Trey’s honor to “The MGH Lewy Body Fund” and mailed to the Massachusetts General Hospital Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114, Attention: Kylie Wojcicki. Donations can also be made online at https://giving.massgeneral.org/. Please be sure to indicate that the gift is a tribute gift in honor of Trey Wright by specifying under “Additional Details” that the gift has been made to the “The MGH Lewy Body Fund in honor of Trey Wright.”
