Alan Steinert Jr. Obituary

Alan Steinert Jr. died suddenly on October 26th at the seaside home he loved in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts, 6 months from his 89th birthday. An avid golfer and fly fisherman, he continued pursuing both with passion to the end, often with close friends and family and usually accompanied by his beloved canine companion Baby Joe (not to be confused with predecessor and doppelganger, Baby Horace!).

A graduate of Shady Hill School, Philips Exeter Academy, Harvard College, and Harvard Business School, Alan’s professional career was spent leading a family business. But it is his civic activities, and particularly his caring and energetic pro-bono work, early on for the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, for myriad clients of the Executive Service Corp, and especially for many years with Prospect Hill Academy, that most will remember him for.

After the early passing of Moni, love of his life since teenage years, and after he retired from remunerative labor, Alan drew strength from a continuously growing group of buddies and confidants -- his neighbors at Round Hill, his fishing friends, casting flies on practically every continent, and the old Cambridge crowd.

Inspired by close companion Carolyn Osteen, Alan had become an active traveler right up until the end, around the U.S. as well as overseas. The two of them together with family and friends had only just recently returned from hiking in the Dolomites.

Grandpa Fish, as he was affectionately called by his family, was always direct, frequently stubborn, extremely generous, and unusually loyal to friends and family. He lived a life of meaning and his death has created a chasm of grief for many.

Alan leaves four adult children: Alexandra Steinert-Evoy (spouse Scott Evoy, children Tessa and Sophia) and Jessica Aguilera-Steinert (spouse Luis Aguilera, children Diego and Camila), John Steinert (spouse Mirna Goldberger, children Luciana and Miles Steinert, step-children Gabriela and Amanda Horowitz Sixsmith, mother of Olivia), and Timothy Steinert (spouse Lixia Zhang, children Luca and Natasha ), as well as many, many nieces, nephews, their children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed. Further details will be made available in coming days regarding a service to be held in his memory.
