During my 22 years living in Boston and working in the music department at People's Baptist Church and several other churches, I became well-acquainted with Mr. Honeysucker as one of the premier baritone soloists in the area. And as an African American musician steeped in classical genres, he touched me on even deeper levels; his artistry inspired me to be the best musician I could be, and enriched my own knowledge about African Americans in classical music. I only learned today of his passing. It's hard to imagine a world without his voice.

As I was googling to see if Mr. Honeysucker would be singing his magnificent "The Trumpet Shall Sound" from The Messiah this year, his obituary came as a profound shock. My only consolationt is that our loss is heaven's gain.

Damian and Alan,

Words cannot express what you're feeling, as it's a powerful and profound sense of loss that can be fully expressed only through the wordless groans of the Holy Spirit. May He share these with God the Father so that He may bring to you and your entire family comfort during this time. As you think about your father, thank God for the years you had with him and the fond memories you have now. Your father was a gift from God that, thankfully, the rest of us were able to share and enjoy.

You will be in our prayers and I trust you and your sorrow will also be in God's heart. May He show Himself strong to you today and in the days to come.

To Robert's Family:
We share in your sorrow, and at the same time rejoice in the fact that we knew such a wonderful person. The four years of high school at Hamilton High in Memphis, TN would not have been the same without the marvelous baritone sound from our distinguished classmate. God allowed him to be with us for our 50th and 52nd High School Reunions. We were hoping to reunite again, but our God wanted Robert to be a part of His heavenly choir and inspire the saints and angels as he had done during his life on earth.

We will always have a place in our hearts for Robert. Our love and prayers are with you.

Sincerely,
Wrensey and Eddye Gill

We were greatly saddened to hear of Robert's passing. For many years we came to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston on Valentine's Day to hear him sing love duets with Nancy Armstrong. What a privilege to hear his beautiful, resonant voice. We will never forget him or that amazing voice. We know that God must have needed a more than worthy voice such as his for the heavenly choir. He will be sorely missed by his earthly fans. Rest in peace.

All of us at Temple Emanu-El are terribly saddened by the news of Robert's sudden passing.
Robert has been our baritone singer for the High Holydays for more than two decades, and has elevated and enhanced our worship immeasurably each and every year. In addition, he always found personal inspiration from the sermons delivered by Rabbi Meyer at the holyday season, and felt a keen sense of belonging and kinship to our congregation. Our entire community sends condolences to Robert’s dear family, and with gratitude for all he has brought to the beauty of our worship, know that his memory will long endure for blessing.

When you sang, the churches and the concert halls were filled with such a magnificent sound. I was so privileged to hear you sing, mainly at Emmanuel Church, Boston. You sang in the choir and I was the organist. Thanks for the compliment! You enjoyed my hymn playing and I certainly your singing. God's love to you and your family.

Dear Damien and Allen,
Larry R and often served babysitters while at TOUGALOO !
Such wonderful memories or those times...
I have learned of the transition of my beloved mentor, Choral Director, teacher and friend.

Robert Honeysucker
Robert Honeysucker, Baritone

Slowly as I weep in my sudden pain, the joy of the Lord is also rushing through my veins for truly I know all will be well with my soul!

Bob affectionately known to many of TOUGALOO COLLEGE CHOIR MEMBERSHIP was remarkable, down to earth man among men!

Robert Honeysucker awarded my FULL Choral Music Scholarship to Tougaloo College one year in advance of my graduating from COLEMAN HIGH SCHOOL and for many reasons this was held in secret until the
SENIOR CLASS NIGHT of my graduating year where the entire class/city was shocked with the formal announcement.

Even though I had sung with the CHS Glee Club from 7th to 11th grades of my high school journey many were unaware of my final year’s protest in regard to Choral Leadership of the day!

While much credit is given to the remarkable teacher (H.L.J.) for whom I had learned so many of my skills my natural talent was God’s gift! God opened doors when others offered no help at all!

Discretion continued as countless discussions were being conducted of where my college education would begin but it was willed that a beautiful wedding was being planned and Robert Honeysucker and I shared in the ceremony.

The rest is history that I have cherished a lifetime!

In Peace

I love you Robert Honeysucker!

Thank you yet again...
