Salem, NH — Loretta (Swain) Kandres, a long-time resident of Salem, NH, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 25th at Lahey Clinic after complications from a stroke.
Loretta was born on March 15, 1942, in Melrose, Massachusetts, to her parents George and Elizabeth (Wilson) Swain. Loretta lived most of her childhood in Stoneham, Massachusetts. She received a Bachelor of Science from UMass Amherst. She continued her education at Boston University and the University of Rhode Island, from which she received her Master’s in Library Science in the mid-1970s. Loretta married Charles Kandres (pre-deceased) in 1970, and then moved to Salem, NH. Loretta worked as a librarian and substitute teacher at various libraries and schools.
Loretta loved good food and socializing with friends. She appreciated all of God’s creatures and was known for being a pet whisperer. As a librarian and teacher, but also an avid reader in her down time, she could always be counted on to bring a wealth of information to any conversation. Loretta was a passionate woman, unafraid to show emotion whether it was laughter or tears, and she had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. Loretta was a member of the Eastern Star Pilgrim Chapter #55 and Rockingham Chapter #3.
She is survived by her son, John Kandres and his wife Janet of Danvers, MA and her daughter Kristina and husband David Frizzell of Woburn, MA. She has two grandchildren, Erin and Matthew Frizzell of Woburn, MA who brought great joy to her later years.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, November 9, at GracePoint Community Church. Visitation is at 10 AM, and the Memorial Service is at 11 AM. Loretta asked that you please wear colorful clothing and not wear all black to her celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to GracePoint Community Church, 25 Orchard Hill Road, North Andover, MA 01845.
