Helen Marie Saltmarsh of Woburn, formerly of Belmont passed away peacefully on the morning of March 7, 2018. Helen was born on February 27, 1926 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She recently celebrated her 92nd birthday surrounded by her immediate family. She was the daughter of the late Amelia and Joseph Perry. Growing up in Cambridge, Helen also attended Cambridge Public Schools. More than anything else Helen was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Over the years she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. Helen was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. She collected a large library of cookbooks and loved to watch food and cooking channels. Helen had a passion for baking and would make fabulous cakes for the special occasions celebrated by family and friends. In 1949 Helen married the love of her life, Charles Arthur Saltmarsh who passed away suddenly in 1984. She was also predeceased by her brother Joseph Perry and cousins Louise Raia and Merna Prugnarola. Helen is survived by her daughter, Judith Arrigo and son-in-law John of Belmont, her granddaughters, Heather Arrigo of Sharon, Amy Arrigo-Goldman (husband, Jeff) and great-grandsons, Asher and Eli Goldman of Sudbury. She is also survived by her sister Dolores Durrell (husband Roland), nieces Darlene Durrell and Lisa Richardson of Billerica, along with many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews from Charles’ family. Visiting hours will be Monday, March 12th from 4:00-7:00 PM. at the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home 36 Trapelo Road, Belmont. The funeral will commence from the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home on Wednesday March 14th at 8:00 AM. followed by a funeral mass in St Joseph’s Church 130 Common St., Belmont at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Helen’s favored charity, St Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
