George W. McCarthy (88) of Belmont, passed away on October 31 after a brief illness. The son of Ruth and George McCarthy, he was raised in Medford, along with his sisters Ruth, Margaret, Clare, and Andrea. George served in the U.S. Army, and graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in business. George and his wife Virginia raised their family in Belmont, and he worked as a salesman for Accurate Fasteners for more than 40 years. He was involved in the community, and served as President of the Belmont Boosters Club.
He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Virginia McCarthy of Belmont; his daughter Michele O’Brien and her husband Steve of Concord; his son David McCarthy and wife Debbie of Andover; five grandchildren, Sean O’Brien, Meghan O’Brien, Tim O’Brien, Dan McCarthy, and Pat McCarthy; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home, 36 Trapelo Road, Belmont Thursday Nov. 2 at 8am. Funeral mass at 9am at St. Joseph’s Church, 130 Common Street, Belmont at 9am. Interment in Highland Meadow Cemetery, Belmont.
