Welcome to the memorial page for

Barbara A. (McSweeney) White

September 17, 1936 ~ October 29, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Barbara died peacefully on October 29th surrounded by her family. Barbara was the wife of William A. White Jr. for 56 years until his passing on 10/23/13. Barbara was the youngest child of Irish immigrants Terrence McSweeney and Mary Ellen Leddy McSweeney of Cambridge. Barbara was predeceased by four sisters and one brother each of whom she missed dearly and spoke of often: Margaret McSweeney of Cambridge; Catherine and Francis Flynn of Arlington;  Mary and Wally Kirylo of Cambridge; Dorothy and Francis Corcoran of Cambridge; and William and Jenny McSweeney of Quincy

Barbara graduated from Cambridge High and Latin in 1954 where she was a member of the Glee club.  Barbara moved to Chelmsford in 1968 and along with her husband raised 8 children.  She was a charter member of the Chelmsford Emblem Club. Although most would welcome a quiet night at home, Barbara preferred lively family game nights and the house was always filled with friends. A hard worker inside and outside the home, Barbara was the epitome of a strong Irish woman. She enjoyed many family camping trips and saw much of the country.  In her later years, she traveled to Alaska, Florida, Bermuda, Hawaii, and France, as well as several trips to her ancestral homeland, Ireland.  These were fun-filled trips she enjoyed with Bill and often with one or more of her sisters.

Barbara is survived by her children, William A White, III and his wife Alison, Marybeth White and her husband Roger, Carolyn Nye and her husband Michael, Dorothy White, Barbara Roberts and her husband Dean, Andrea Wilkins, Margaret Ellen White, and Jennifer Galoski and her husband Peter.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Billy and Larry White, Eamonn and Eilish Nye, Leddy and Liam Shockley, Maria Antonetti, Connor, Michael and Mackenzie Wilkins, John Slattery, and Henry, Harris and Hewitt Galoski.

Barbara was also the sister in law of Robert White and the late Sheila (Dube) White of Waltham, the late Ruth (Babe) and John Tamoosh of Plymouth and the late Richard White.

Barbara (Nana) will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to have her in their lives.
