Franz R. Schemmel of Belmont, MA, passed away unexpectedly on August 3, 2017, at the age of 83. He was the devoted husband of Judith Schemmel and beloved father to sons Kurt of Belmont, MA, and Hans of Winchester, MA. Franz is also survived by Hans’ wife, Kara, and his three loving grandchildren — Lukas, Brooke and Serena — along with his brothers Hans and Sepp Schemmel of Bruck a. d. Mur, Austria.
Franz was known to be patient and calm while always having a positive thing to say. He shared his passion of soccer and ski racing, especially that of the Austrian Ski Team. Along with being a talented chef, he always lent a hand coaching the Special Olympians in his life. Franz also spent his entire career helping clients make sure homes, buildings, parking garages and even airports of their dreams were structurally sound. Friends described him as “wonderful,” “awesome” and “a great man.”
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home, 36 Trapelo Road, Belmont, MA. A private burial service will be held separately.
